Blue Highway Game Night
Our annual Game Night with Blue Highway games! This is a low-key, quieter event where Blue Highway Games comes in to set up various games to play and the ability to purchase games where 20% of all sales goes back to Coe. Stop by when you can to play a round or two - please note that this event is free to attend!
School Daytime Tour
2025 School Tours for Incoming Kindergarten & Prospective Families

Daytime Tour, Thursday January 30, 9:00-10:30 a.m.
We will begin with a welcome presentation in the cafeteria with Principal Backstrom. At 9:30, we will transition into small group school tours led by PTA members. During school day tours, classroom doors and windows will be open, however guests will not be permitted in classrooms so as to not disrupt learning. The school day tour concludes at 10:30 and we kindly ask guests to exit the building at 10:30.
The intended audience for school tours is adults. If young children do attend, they must be supervised at all times.
For a virtual tour, visit the Coe website. There will also be an evening tour on Tuesday February 11th at 6:30pm.
Coe-mmunity Night

Coe @ UW Gymnastics vs. UCLA
UW Gymnastics is back for the 2025 season! We are excited to invite COE Elementary out to Hec Ed to watch the Gym Dawgs take on one of the best programs in the nation in UCLA!
UCLA has Gold Medalist (and Washington native) Jordan Chiles on the team, so don't miss this opportunity to see world class athletes compete! A Portion of every ticket purchase also goes back to support Coe Elementary directly!

Coe Cares Book Drive Benefiting Treehouse
Coe Cares Annual Book Drive will take place from April 20th thru May 1st. Collected new and gently used books for readers aged 0 to 25 benefiting Treehouse. Books will be collected in the atrium, there is also a way to fulfill Treehouse's online wishlist.
Cougar Mountain Cookie Dough Distribution
It’s cookie time! Pick up for Cougar Mountain cookie dough orders is Friday, December 13th at the covered basketball court from 2:25-3:00 p.m. Boys and Girls Club families can pick up orders at Boys and Girls Club. We are unable to store any unclaimed orders. Please email Marlana Kohn at marlana_joy@yahoo.com with questions.

PTA General Meeting
Attend our General PTA Meeting!
The second of four quarterly meetings will take place on December 10th at 7pm in the Kearns Library at Coe. This is a great way to meet other parents and learn more about our PTA and happenings at our school. We will also offer a hybrid, virtual option for those who cannot make it in person. We will share the Google Meet link in the weekly Wednesday Coe Bulletin. Please join us!
Coe Cares Giving Tree

The Coe Giving Tree is LIVE!
Help us rally around Coe Families who need extra support this season with gifts, clothes and grocery gift cards. All gifts are anonymous.
You can participate by purchasing a grocery gift card AND/OR purchasing gifts, books or clothing for Coe Families and bringing the unwrapped item back to the Coe office before Friday, 12/13.

To donate a $25 or $50 grocery gift card you may either:
Purchase a physical gift card at a store and deliver it to the Coe office.

WSPTA Reflections Art Contest Submissions Due
Reflections Art Contest
This year, Coe will be participating in the PTA Reflections program, which offers students a platform to express their unique perspectives and interpretation of a student-created theme. For the 2024-2025 school year, the theme is “Accepting Imperfection".
Coe will be submitting artwork in the Visual Arts category this year. To submit a piece of artwork:

Complete the submission entry form.
Submit an electronic copy of your student's artwork to April Saunders at lil_atrain2003@yahoo.com.
All electronic submissions must be in by 5 PM on Monday, November 18, 2024.
Once submitted, please deliver your artwork to the front desk by Wednesday, November 20, 2024 to be displayed at school. Artwork will be displayed at the SCPTSA's art show later next year (details TBD).

Seattle Kraken vs. New York Islanders
We hope you’ll come out to watch the Seattle Kraken take on the New York Islanders, November 16th at 1PM! For every ticket sold, a portion of the proceeds will be generously donated to support Coe!

Pick up your limited-edition pencil pouch in the team store, The Lair, by scanning your ticket! Pickup window is from when doors open until the end of the 2nd Intermission.
Coe Cares Food Drive Ends
Coe-mmunity: please join us in supporting the Ballard Food Bank October 25th-November 8th by donating critically-needed items ahead of a busy holiday season. The Food Bank supports Weekend Food for Kids, among other important programs, and is a wonderful and relied-upon resource for our entire community. Visit coepta.org/coe-cares for more details!

Cougar Mountain Cookie Dough Sales Begin
Order cookie dough for family, friends and neighbors, by November 13, 2024! All proceeds from cookie dough sales by 4th and 5th graders will go towards their Islandwood fund, and sales proceeds from all other grades will support the Coe PTA.
You can also donate cookie dough to other families through Coe Cares! Just enter the number of tubs you would like to donate at the bottom of the list and the PTA will distribute through Coe Cares.

Coe Cares Gift Card & Food Drive
The gift card drive provides assistance to Coe families with the cost of groceries throughout the year, specifically helping to offset the cost of food during school break weeks. Our annual food drive benefits Ballard Food bank, a vital community resource and supports Coe families directly through their "Weekend Food for Kids" program. Monster Mash 2024
Calling all witches, goblins, and ghosts! Save the date for this year’s Monster Mash on Friday, October 25th from 6-8pm. The Monster Mash is a fun event for current Coe students and family members. To make the event a success, we need your help.
Volunteer to run a game or craft, set up, clean up, or decorate for the event. Look out for the sign up list!
Bakers (or shoppers) for desserts and cakes, please to contribute fun and ghostly creations.
Tickets are used at the Monster Mash for games, crafts, bake sale treats, and more. Tickets will be available to purchase online before the event.

Coe Gardening Day!
Help keep Coe grounds beautiful! Come volunteer on Saturday, October 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to pull weeds, plant flowers and shrubs, and mulch planter boxes. All ages welcome. Sign up list coming soon.
SPS has a limited grounds crew so maintaining our beautiful school gardens is a community effort. Please bring water, snacks, your own gardening gloves if you have them, and wear clothes that can get dirty. We will provide everything else (including a limited supply of gardening gloves). You do not need to stay the entire time; we’re glad to have you for any amount of time.

Individual School Picture Day
Yuen Lui Studio will photograph individual portraits at Coe Elementary on Tuesday, October 8.
Families can preorder photos at 2024-25 Coe Elementary Picture Day 10/8 . Enter your email address and select your package; separate orders are required for each student, including siblings. Print orders will be shipped to the school in approximately three weeks after picture day. Digital orders will be sent via email.
Family Open House
We hope to see everyone at our Family Open House on Tuesday, October 1st, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The purpose of this event is to open our school, make connections between staff and families, and provide an opportunity for students to share their learning. This is a drop-in style event but please allow at least 45 minutes for your visit.

Back to School Bash 2024
This is a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) sponsored event for all Coe families to celebrate the beginning of the school year, make connections and learn more about school events, and PTA volunteer opportunities. Food trucks will be available to purchase dinner, and kids can play, dance, and enjoy the evening!
Kinder Boo Hoo Breakfast
On the first day of school for kindergarten students we invite kindergarten parents to join us in the cafeteria after drop off for our annual “Boo Hoo” Breakfast. Stop by for coffee, pastries, and a message from Principal Backstrom and the PTA.
First Day of School (1st-5th Grade)
First day of school for 1st - 12th grade students. Sept. 4 is not an early release Wednesday. Early release will occur every Wednesday except for the first week of school.
Volunteer with the PTA
Our PTA runs on volunteers, and there are plenty of ways to be involved via a variety of committees and events. We welcome any time commitment that is possible to you and your family. The best way to stay up to date with monthly volunteer opportunities, no matter how big or small, is to join as a PTA member, as we will send out emails with regular volunteer asks to our membership. In addition, we also run regular communications to the entire school in the weekly Wednesday Coe Bulletin - don’t forget to scroll down to catch the PTA section!
