Coe Elementary School Tours And Open House

We welcome you to learn more about Coe Elementary at our scheduled tours and Open House noted below. We will not be scheduling individual tours.  With have many requests for this type of tour, but the Principal’s schedule cannot keep pace with the number of requests she gets. Please do come tour at a scheduled time. The Open Enrollment period for Seattle Schools is February 4 – February 15.

Coe’s tour dates for new families and incoming kindergarten families are:

Thursday, January 31, 8:00-9:30 a.m.

Thursday, February 7, 8:00-9:30 a.m.

Class tours will start promptly at 8:00 a.m. and last through 8:55 am. At 9:00 a.m. the principal will make a presentation in the library. It typically lasts for about 30 minutes including time for questions and answers.

Coe’s Open House will take place on Wednesday, February 6,  from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

The Principal will present at Open House.  Kindergarten teachers and student council officers will also present. Prospective families can see classrooms, but there will be no students present so it is very different than a daytime visit.   If families want to see classrooms in action, the daytime tour is the one to attend.

Rules for tours and the open house:

  • No children except babes in arms, please.  These events are for adults only.
  • We ask that prospective parents RSVP so we can plan enough tour guides. Email ldloewe@seattleschools.org to let us know you want to come for a tour.  This way we have an adequate number of tour guides.

One problem Coe had in the 2017-18 school year was that a significant number of our current kindergarten parents did not enroll their child during Open Enrollment or even by June 1. We had planned originally for four kindergarten classes, but in mid-June we had only 67 kindergartners enrolled, and so the district cut a kindergarten teacher.  In fact, during the 2017-18 school year Coe had 91 kindergarten students, creating class size of 30 and 31 children in each of our three kindergarten classes.  This kind of class size can be avoided if parents of kindergartners enroll early (early means by June 1 at the very latest; during Open Enrollment is even better).  This helps us plan, and it helps us avoid unsatisfactory class size in our kindergartens.
